Mountain Home, AK – Battling stiff winds and tough conditions, the team of Jake Trombley, Peter Schaefer, and Ray Shankel rose to the top at the 2nd Annual Denali Rods Myriad Tournament on Saginaw Bay, weighing in 20.92 pounds to secure the $5,000 first-place prize.
The trio leaned heavily on precision, patience, and the sensitivity of the Denali Myriad 7’6” Medium Action rod to make the most of each bite. Relying on tungsten jigs tipped with crawlers, their finesse approach proved deadly on the Bay’s wary fish. Despite the challenging conditions, the Myriad’s responsiveness helped them feel even the most subtle bites.
“We were finessing them—just kind of floating it above the fish and working them slow,” explained Trombley. “We went through about 15 fish today, and with the sensitivity of the Myriad, we could feel every little tick. That combination of rod and technique really made the difference for us.”
Blending sharp technique with top-tier equipment, Trombley, Schaefer, and Shankel showcased what the Myriad Series is built for - performance, precision, and results when it matters most.
Their teamwork and attention to detail earned them a well-deserved win and the spotlight at this year’s Myriad Tournament.
